The Changing Power Landscape

Tuesday, April 23 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Location: Mirage Events Center C1

Coal, hydro, and nuclear power have reliably supplied baseload generation for decades, but horizontal drilling and fracking techniques have resulted in an abundance of low-cost natural gas in the U.S., pushing gas generation to the top of the power mix in recent years. Wind and solar power continue to grow as states promote these resources through ever-higher renewable portfolio standards, among other things. Furthermore, customers are turning to distributed energy to reduce costs and take more control over their power supplies. How should utilities respond? In this jam session, POWER magazine's editors will touch on the power landscape--past, present, and future--offering insight gleaned through their interaction with experts throughout the power industry.
