Title: Landfill Pond Closure

description

Coal-fired boilers have long utilized ponds to manage the staging and disposal of CCRs. But ponds come with risks, and failure can be catastrophic. Environmental watchdogs are on the lookout for mistakes, so properly managing CCRs should be near the top of every coal plant operator's to-do list. This session will explain how large impoundments can be closed in an environmentally responsible fashion and provide some dos and donts to appropriately manage the process.

PRESENTATIONS INCLUDED (SPEAKERS LISTED ALPHABETICALLY, NOT IN PRESENTATION ORDER):
  • Larger Impoundment Closures Require More Complex Solutions
Danny Gray, Executive VP for Governmental/Environmental Affairs, Charah Solutions, Inc.
  • Making CCR pond Closure Decisions Based on More Than Cost and Compliance
Matt Bleything, Associate Civil Engineer, Burns & McDonnell
  • Introducing the Project Management Oversight (PPMO) Concept for CCR Closure Projects
